A year ago Prevent Blindness America celebrated its Centennial by asking organizations that support its mission to prevent blindness and save sight provide free eye exams to those without Visual Insurance coverage.
That was April of 2008 and Family Vision Care Center of Saratoga Springs offered free eye exams for each Friday of April 2008.
Susan Halstead, owner of Family Vision, says response was overwhelming and demonstrated the need for this program.
Thatfs when she resolved to continue the program on the First Friday of each month. The program is free to those without visual insurance with no further obligation.. There are no purchase requirements and reports are sent to the patientfs primary care physician as requested. It does not provide free exams for contact lens users.
Susan says this area has been hit economically like every other area in the country and this program helps people who might otherwise neglect their eyecare.
She is also proud of another free program offered by Family Vision Infant-See. This program developed by the American Optometric Association tests the vision of infants from six to twelve months of age.
A report is sent to the infantfs pediatrician and steps can be taken immediately to resolve vision problems.
Without this type of exam problems may not be recognized until the child enters elementary school.
Susan says it is important to give back to the community that supports you and that Family Vision Care is now celebrating its 82nd year of continuous service to Saratoga Springs and Wilton.
Family Vision Care Center is located at 206 Lake Avenue at East Avenue, Saratoga Springs. Please call 584-6111 to schedule your appointment.
On a personal note Susan is demonstrating her commitment to community service by serving as Treasurer on the Board of the Wesley Foundation and the Chamber of Commerce.
She has been an Event Chair for the Soroptimists and a Captain in Saratoga Hospitalfs fund-raising drive for the new Emergency Department.
