40,000 RSVP to Mary Lou Whitney and John Hendrickson's invite to join them in celebrating the 150th birthday of Saratoga thoroughbred racing.
Weather cooperated as the sidewalks and Congress Park were filled with celebrators August 2
With Sam the Bugler leading followed by Mary Lou Whitney and special guest Susan Lucci and husband, Helmut Huber in a horse drawn landau carriage decorated with Mary Lou Whitney Roses (Patented roses commissioned by John Hendrickson for Mary Lou - see garden by Canfield Casino).
Other floral decorated horse drawn carriages would fall in behind Mary Lou's carriage. Then classic cars from the Saratoga Auto Museum.
Waiting to join the Parade at Walton Street were the Promenaders in Victorian garb. And the couples with floral decorator baby carriages, trikes with flowers, bikes with roses.
The final float ending the Promenade was a narrow flower-decorated tennis net. Tennis players in '20's long pant tennis garb marched along side the float volleying continuously down Broadway.
Once in Congress Park the Ice Cream Social (courtesy of Stewarts and Mary Lou Whitney and John Hendrickson) began. (See Page 5) Mary Lou and John also provide tokens for free rides on the Carousel.
