Every year, Geyser School takes advantage of the nearby spa park as a venue for the fifth grade to practice overland navigation
The primary directive to the parents acting as chaperones is "Just follow their lead."
The students filled out the information on their own maps, they oriented them with their compasses, they identified landmarks and extrapolated their own routes to the various special punch tools set up at the different checkpoints.
The fifth graders had been practising the techniques and methods in gym for the past 3 weeks, but that didn't mean there weren't a few mix ups to sort out.
After the treking through the park finished, there were bagged lunches and grilled sausages for lunch and some free time in one of the Spa Park's lovely pavilions.
