Looking over various US holidays, there are a lot of similarities between July fourth and Flag day last month. The difference in the holidays is that Flag day is about celebrating what the US represents. Independence day is about looking back and remembering that over 200 years ago the founding fathers committed to a fight with the greatest superpower of the age.
July fourth celebrates the fact that we won.
There was no shortage of things to do beyond the parade. In Congress Park, not only was the Carousel open, but the Elks were offering freshly prepared food, personalities from the revolution and the civil war were on hand, and there were plenty of nice cars on display.
Also, it was a nice day.
