With constantly growing attendance and lots of positive feedback, the Lions Duathlon is going to continue for many years to come. Just not with the Skidmore college athletic field as the starting point and hub. Starting with the Eighth Lions Duathlon in 2012, the race will be based at the Saratoga Casino and Raceway rather than Skidmore.
A move that will at least make parking easier.
A Duathlon is three part race, participants start off with a 5K run, then bike 20 Miles before running another 5K. While some participants took part in all three parts of the race, many others entered in teams of two or three, dividing the parts of the race between them.
This year, there were 321 participants total, and all but 7 finished the race. Not bad for a course encompassing over 25 miles, including a few hills.
The Duathlon, along with Casino nights and a September golf tournament, are a primary fund raising event for the Saratoga Lions Club. The money raised goes to fund many positive local projects, like the Gliding Stars, Their November Health Fair, Scholarship programs, and many other projects looking to serve the community.
