Pooches march in Purple Parade

With the Megaphone Lady (aka Dr Joy Lucas DVM) assembling the paraders and giving instructions the 3rd annual Parade was off in good order October 12 in Congress Park.

The Pooches and what an assortment. A St Bernard cross to minature pugs - each with their purple bandana to signify they and their owners support Saratoga's Domestic Violence and Rape Crisis Services (DVRC).

As a vet Dr Joy knows pets in a home can suffer from domestic violence. That's why DVRC's program to place pets in safe foster homes while the family escapes the abuse and re-starts their lives is the theme and the motivation for the Purple Pooch Parade.

After yielding the megaphone Dr Joy joined the Parade with her pooch, Possum. Reverend Eleanor Stanton gave the invocation.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. For information on how you can help call 583-0280.
