Track Opening Day July 18 2011

97 and 25,155 came to Saratoga to help start the 143rd Meeting at Saratoga.

That's the magic of Saratoga. Even on a day for frying eggs on sidewalks (97 on the Concourse) racing enthusiasts were at the Track.

And they were not disappointed. Boat won the first race of the Meeting on the turf and paid $14.20 in an exciting finish. See picture above. Plus pictures of the first Riders Up in the Paddock in 2011.

It was so hot Charlie Hayward NYRA (New York Racing Association) CEO seen on the concourse was spotted not wearing a jacket.

I mentioned the Saratoga legend that in the Boxes of the Clubhouse of the Track on a hot day that not until A G Vanderbilt removed his jacket, could anyone one else doffed his jacket.

Charlie just said, Today nobody is wearing a jacket.
